Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, Montana

The Last Thing,

you want to happen while out in the middle of nowhere is run out of is water, food, light, warmth, and some form of protection. In this post, I will show you 5 Adventuring Essentials I bring out in the wild with me to ensure that I do not become a casualty or a statistic. Even on a day hike, I take these items with me because not every situation is same and some things cannot be predicted. So without further adieu, here is our top five!

Number 5:

The Tom Brown Tracker Knife! This knife was made popular by the Benicio del Toro and Tommy Lee Jones movie ” The Hunted,” and its developer, Tom Brown, is a survival expert and a tracking instructor who developed this knife for just that. It is designed to chop, split, carve, hammer, scrape, saw, engrave, and even break metal wire such as barbed wire! Look closely at the picture above and you will see me wearing it on my right hip.

Number 4:

Having the warmth available is vital even when there are summer conditions. If you end up breaking down or getting stranded somewhere, having these few items can save your butt! All of these are super lightweight and pack down lightly.

Food that can be stored away and saved for a time you feel you need a ‘pick me up’ is needed to continue on the trek and to keep going.

Number 1:

Water is the MOST VITAL thing to have at your disposal. If you are hiking or in places with water quality that will give you Montezuma’s revenge and Delhi belly, why not have a filtering system that removes bacteria, protozoa, cysts, algae filters out chemicals & improves the taste of water? It also seamlessly connects to your hydration system you carry on you back i.e., Camelbak or the like..  Will filter up to 300 gallons or 1,150 Litres before having to change the filter!
